Broadway Tower walk
A walk from the beautiful village of Broadway to the iconic Broadway Tower in the Cotswolds. This walk is a journey that combines natural beauty with historical intrigue.
Starting in Broadway, often called the 'Jewel of the Cotswolds', you'll be greeted by a scene straight out of a storybook. The village's wide main street is lined with beautifully preserved stone cottages, boutique shops, and inviting tearooms. As you begin your ascent to Broadway Tower, the walk leads you through a landscape of rolling hills, open countryside, and wonderful woodlands.
As you climb towards Broadway Tower the walk winds through open fields, where you can pause to enjoy the wildlife and take in the panoramic views of the Cotswold escarpment stretching out below.
Reaching Broadway Tower, the highest castle in the Cotswolds, is a rewarding climax to the walk. This striking folly, designed by James Wyatt in 1798, stands at 1,024 feet above sea level and offers one of the best viewpoints in England. From the top, you can see up to 16 counties on a clear day. The tower itself is steeped in history, having served various roles over the centuries, including a farmhouse, a retreat for artists, and a wartime observation post. Exploring its rooms and learning about its past adds an enriching dimension to the visit. Please note there is a cost to enter Broadway Tower
After taking in the breathtaking views and perhaps enjoying a refreshment at the nearby café, the descent back to Broadway is just as enjoyable, finishing back in Broadway where you can relax in one of its historic pubs, reflecting on a day well spent in the heart of the Cotswolds.
